Good news!

The curvature in Emma's spine hasn't changed from a year and a half ago.  We need to continue to monitor her growth process.  But for now, no treatment is necessary.

We are breathing a sigh of relief and this family can rest and recoup for a while.  Praise the Lord!!!

We just went through this, too! One of the keys is to keep the muscles stretched out when the growth spurts do happen so they don't constrict the rapidly growing bones. I didn't know this and learned the hard way. However, I learned in the nick of time and my daughter avoided surgery and hasn't had any change in her curve in over a year. But, the orthopedic specialists at Shriner's told me to keep doing what I'm going and I make my daughter do stretches every day as part of her PT regime. My daughter has a very unusual spine so staying on top of things is crucial for her. I found most of the exercises and stretches that helped on German websites that were in English. Of course, the first surgeon we saw at Kaiser said nothing but surgery would help and wanted to fuse her spine and we actually went all the way to the pre-op appointment before learning he was way wrong. The specialist at Shriner's said they'd never have even considered surgery yet, but to keep a close watch, keep doing whatever it is I'm doing and they'll see us in 8 months.
